Edward James Loder, né le 10 juillet 1809 à Bath – mort le 5 avril 1865 à Londres, est un compositeur et chef d'orchestre britannique. Son œuvre la plus célèbre est son opéra Raymond and Agnes.
Loder est né à Bath, Somerset. Il était le fils de John David Loder (1788-1846), un violoniste et directeur musical du Théâtre Royal de Bath et de sa femme Rosamund, née Mills (1787-1856), une belle-fille du comédien John Fawcett. Edward Loder avait un frère jumeau, le violoniste John Fawcett Loder (1809-1853), et un jeune frère William Sowerby Loder (1812-1851), un violoncelliste qui a épousé la soprano Emily Woodyatt. Parmi ses cousins se trouve le compositeur et chef d' orchestre George Loder (1816-1868) et sa soeur, le compositeur et pianiste Kate Loder.
La famille de Loder l'a envoyé à Francfort en 1826 pour étudier avec Ferdinand Ries, qui était un vieil ami de la famille. Il retourne en Angleterre en 1828 et a entrepris une carrière réussie en tant que chef d'opéra à Londres et comme directeur musical du Princess's Theatre, et, en 1851 directeur du Théâtre Royal de Manchester.
Son premier succès de compositeur fut Nourjahad en 1834. Ses compositions incluent des opéras, cantates, opéras-ballades, des quatuors à cordes, et beaucoup de mélodies. Aujourd'hui, il est surtout connu pour son opéra Raymond and Agnès (1855), qui a été relancé à Cambridge en 1966. Son opéra qui eut le plus de succès au cours de sa durée de vie était The Wilis, or The Night Dancers, (ou Giselle, or The Night Dancers) d'abord produit en 1846 et repris à Covent Garden en 1860.
Le 10 Novembre 1831, Loder a épousé Elizabeth Mary Watson (c.1813-1880) à Bristol. Il semble qu'ils ont été séparés quelques années plus tard, car en 1861 , il a déclaré que sa femme était Louisa Alice Foster, née vers 1838. Il semble avoir engendré un fils (Edward Loder Garside, 1850-1940) avec l'actrice Clara Garside Neville (1827-1869) au cours de son mariage avec Louisa. Les hommages au moment de sa mort, en 1865, précisaient qu'il était célibataire.
