Eduard Hecht, né à Dürkheim im Haardt, le 28 novembre 1832 et mort à Manchester le 7 mars 1887 est un pianiste et compositeur allemand ayant vécu en Angleterre.
Il a été formé à Francfort par son père, un musicien respecté, puis par Jacob Rosenhain, Christian Hauff, et Messer. Il a aussi chanté comme soprano garçon.
En 1854, il est arrivé en Angleterre et s'installe à Manchester, où il est resté jusqu'à sa mort.
Rapidement, Hecht s'associe aux Charles Hallès Concerts comme maître de chant et chef adjoint. Mais en plus de cela, il a été chef de la Manchester Liedertafel en 1859-1878; à partir de 1860 chef de la St-Cecilia Choral Society; et à partir de 1879 chef de la Stretford Choral Society. En 1875, il est chargé de cours sur l'harmonie et la composition à l'Owens College de Cambridge; et a également été examinateur en musique à la Hight Schools for Girls de Manchester et Leeds. En plus de ces postes nombreux et variés, Hecht a été professeur de piano privé. Ces travaux constants, toutefois, n'ont pas épuisé son esprit avide, ni amorti son pouvoir de composition originale. Outre une symphonie jouée aux Hallès Concerts, un chœur, "The Charge of the Light Brigade", bien connu des amateurs; Eric the Dane, cantate; un autre chœur avec orchestre, "O, may I join the choir invisible" -tous de grands favoris des sociétés de chant - Les travaux de Hecht s'étendent à travers une longue liste de morceaux de piano (dont une sonate), des chansons, des chansons à plusieurs parties, trios, deux Ouvertures, deux quatuors à cordes, un quintette pour piano et vents, une sonate pour clarinette et piano, marches pour orchestre militaire, etc, et se termine avec son op. 28, mais beaucoup de morceaux sont sans opus.
Hecht est mort subitement à son domicile le 7 Mars 1887. Il était aimé par tous ceux qui l'ont connu pour son enthousiasme et son énergie, son caractère agréable, et son esprit sincère et simple. Pour ses fonctions musicales, il a eu un instinct rapide artistique, une conscience scrupuleuse, et un amour pur et désintéressé de son art.
