Alfred Reed (né le 25 janvier 1921 à New York - mort le 17 septembre 2005 à Miami) était un compositeur américain néoclassique, avec plus de deux cents œuvres publiées pour orchestre de concert, orchestre, chœur et ensemble de chambre. Il a également beaucoup voyagé en tant que chef invité, se produisant en Amérique du Nord, en Amérique latine, en Europe et en Asie.
Reed est né à New York et a commencé sa formation musicale à l'âge de dix ans. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il a servi dans la 529ème armée de l'air. Après son service militaire, il fréquente la Juilliard School of Music, où il étudie auprès de Vittorio Giannini. Il devient ensuite compositeur et arrangeur pour NBC, puis pour ABC. En 1953, il devient chef d'orchestre du Baylor Symphony Orchestra à la Baylor University, où il reçoit son BM et ses MB en 1956. Son mémoire de maîtrise, Rhapsody pour alto et orchestre, reçoit le prix Luria en 1959. Il est membre du chapitre Beta Tau dePhi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, la fraternité nationale des hommes en musique.
De 1955 à 1966, il a été rédacteur en chef de Hansen Publications, un éditeur de musique. Il a été professeur de musique à l'Université de Miami, où il a travaillé avec le compositeur Clifton Williams de 1966 jusqu'à la mort de ce dernier en 1976. Le bureau de Williams se trouvait juste en face du bureau de Reed à la UM School of Music. Reed était président du département des médias musicaux et de l'industrie et du directeur du programme de l'industrie musicale jusqu'à sa retraite. Il a créé le tout premier programme d’études commerciales dans le domaine de la musique à l’Université de Miami en 1966, ce qui a amené d’autres collèges et universités à faire de même. Au moment de sa mort, il avait des commandes de composition qui l'auraient amené à l'âge de 115 ans. De nombreuses compositions pour orchestre à vent de Reed ont été publiées sous forme d'enregistrements sur CD par le Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra.
