Čestmír Gregor (né le 14 mai 1926 à Brno - mort le 2 Mars 2011 à Prague) était un compositeur, théoricien et publiciste tchèque.
Čestmír Gregor est né à Brno, le fils du compositeur et théoricien Josef Gregor (1892-1957) et de Františka Gregorová Koldová. Après avoir été diplômé de l' école, il a étudié la composition au Conservatoire de Brno avec Jaroslav Kvapil et la Musicologie à l' Université Masaryk de Brno. Il a ensuite poursuivi des études avec Kvapil à l' Académie Janáček de musique et arts et de la scène, où il a finalement terminé en 1970.
Gregor s'est installé à Nový Jičín et a travaillé en tant que compositeur. Il s'est marié et avait un fils, Vit Gregor. Il a servi comme secrétaire de la branche créative de l'Union des compositeurs tchécoslovaques. En Octobre 1959, il a déménagé à Ostrava pour travailler en tant que chef de la station d'émission musicale pour Ostrava Radio tchèque. En 1968, l'arrivée des troupes du Pacte de Varsovie a perturbé son travail à la station de radio, et en 1972 Gregor a été interdit de publier. En 1976, il a déménagé à Prague, où il a continué à travailler en tant que compositeur. Il est mort à Prague.
En tant que compositeur, Gregor a d'abord été fortement influencé par la musique du 20ème siècle, en particulier celle d' Igor Stravinsky, et par le jazz. Durant les années 1950, avec les exigences du réalisme socialiste, il a produit des chansons pour le Mouvement de la jeunesse socialiste, et a exprimé des thèmes politiquement corrects dans ses œuvres symphoniques. Des années plus tard, il a approuvé la tradition moderniste européenne.
